Apply with Us - How to participate in individual Calls for proposals
The Department of Historical and Geographic Sciences and the Ancient World – DiSSGeA encourages and supports the participation of researchers in individual competitive funding schemes. Securing international funding, fostering international research, and attracting researchers of high scientific profile are objectives that the Department is committed to pursuing with determination. Since 2019, in order to coordinate these efforts, the Department has established the ERC @DiSSGeA working group, composed of academic and administrative staff, with the task of providing dedicated and specific support to applicants to individual competitive calls.
Participation procedures are structured according to the type of funding scheme.
European Research Council / Fondo Italiano per la Scienza (Italian Science Fund)
Participation procedures
Within the framework of support for participation in individual European calls under Horizon Europe, the Department has established the following participation procedure.
Applicants intending to apply to ERC calls selecting the Department as their Host Institution must communicate their interest at least four months before the official call deadline by sending an email to: research.dissgea@unipd.it.
The email must include:
- the applicant’s academic and scientific CV;
- a project abstract;
- a complete draft of the Scientific Proposal (Parts B1 and/or B2) of the project to be submitted;
- a preliminary, non-binding indication of the main budget categories envisaged (without necessarily providing a detailed financial breakdown), in order to allow a preliminary assessment of administrative and regulatory compatibility.
The documentation submitted will be treated as confidential material, used exclusively for the purpose of preliminary institutional evaluation, and will not be disclosed or reused in any form in case of non-acceptance of the application.
Following submission of the documentation, the Department will provide feedback after assessing the logistical feasibility of hosting the proposal and its alignment with the Department’s research lines, teaching activities, and third mission activities. In case of a positive evaluation, the applicant’s request to participate will be approved at the first available Department Council meeting.
IMPORTANT KEYPOINTS
Deadlines may vary depending on the publication of calls and the applicable regulations.
Acceptance of the applicant’s request to participate is not in any way binding for the Department, which will provide full support to the proposal and issue the relevant letter of commitment only upon submission, at least 15 days before the call deadline, of a complete application in all its parts and assessed as having an overall acceptable level of quality.
Applicants are invited to include the email address research.dissgea@unipd.it among the notification recipients in the Participant Portal, in order to allow Department staff to be informed about the development of the drafting and evaluation processes and to access the final proposal.
University of Padua support programmes: Talent@Unipd
The above procedures also apply to applicants participating in training and support programmes organised by the University of Padua, such as Talent@Unipd, a programme aimed at selecting excellent candidates to apply for ERC Starting and ERC Consolidator Grants.
Applicants participating in these University programmes and selecting the Department of Historical, Geographical and Ancient Sciences as their host department, in addition to fulfilling all procedures required by the respective Talent programme, must promptly notify the ERC@DiSSGeA working group by sending an email to research.dissgea@unipd.it. This will allow the Department’s academic and administrative staff to provide continuous assistance and dedicated support during the preparation of the application.
In case of failure to communicate participation, the Department reserves the right not to accept the applicant’s request to participate.
Support provided by the ERC@DiSSGeA working group
Applicants who have submitted, within the prescribed deadlines, an expression of interest that has been accepted by the Department will receive support from the ERC@DiSSGeA working group. A complete draft of B1 and/or B2 must be submitted within 60 days from the call deadline.
Beyond these deadlines, support from the ERC@DiSSGeA working group cannot be guaranteed.
MSCA Calls
Participation procedures
Applicants are invited to communicate their intention to apply to MSCA calls at least four months before the official call deadline by sending an email to research.dissgea@unipd.it.
The email must include a preliminary expression of interest consisting of:
- an abstract (minimum 1,000 words);
- an academic and scientific CV;
- the name of the chosen supervisor, selected from among the Department’s permanent academic staff. In the case of MSCA Global Fellowships, applicants must also indicate the supervisor at the non-European host institution.
Following submission of the documentation, the Department will provide feedback after assessing the logistical feasibility of hosting the proposal and its alignment with the Department’s research lines. In case of a positive evaluation, the applicant’s request to participate will be approved at the first available Department Council meeting.
PLEASE NOTE. Regardless of the participation procedure chosen, applicants are invited to include the email address research.dissgea@unipd.it among the notification recipients in the Participant Portal, in order to allow Department staff to be informed about the development of the drafting and evaluation processes and to access the final proposal.
University of Padua support programmes: MaRaThoN
The above procedures also apply to applicants participating in training and support programmes organised by the University of Padua such as MSCA MaRaThoN, an intensive course addressed to candidates applying to Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships who choose the University of Padua as their Host Institution.
Applicants participating in these University programmes and selecting the Department of Historical, Geographical and Ancient Sciences as their host department, in addition to fulfilling all procedures required by the MaRaThoN programmes, must promptly notify the ERC@DiSSGeA working group by sending an email to research.dissgea@unipd.it.
