Tourism for local development: Mobility, territory and entanglement
A seminar series with Dominic Lapointe


Dominic Lapointe is a professor in the Department of Urban and Tourism Studies at Université du Québec à Montréal–UQÀM. Head editor of Téoros, the oldest Tourism Studies French language journal, he holds the Chaire de recherche sur les dynamiques touristiques et les relations socioterritoriales and lead the Groupe de recherche et d’intervention tourisme territoire et société (GRITTS) at UQÀM, both focussing on the social and territorial dimension of tourism development. His work explores the production of tourism space, its role in the capitalist system expansion, and its biopolitical dimensions. His latest research look at climate change, social innovations, indigeneity and critical perspective in tourism studies.
Professor Lapointe has been selected as a short stay visiting professor at the Department of Historical and Geographic Sciences and the Ancient World–DiSSGeA in the framework of Shaping a World Class University, the strategy of the University of Padua to promote and renew global internationalisation.
During his stay at DiSSGeA, Professor Lapointe will provide lectures within the Kick-off Seminar of the Master in Local Development and will cooperate with the Centre for Advanced Studies Mobility & Humanities–MoHu.
